After years of searching for the right property, the Client purchased this early 1900s craftsman home, drawn to its rich architectural details and historic charm. While the home’s bones were strong, its interiors had drifted away from their original character, calling for a thoughtful, era-appropriate transformation. Without altering the structure, we focused on layering rich textures, deep colors, and artisan craftsmanship to restore warmth and depth while modernizing the space for contemporary living.
This home is a testament to the power of considered design, proving that a space can be reborn through intentional details, quality craftsmanship, and a deep respect for its history—without the need for major reconstruction. The result is a home that feels deeply personal, rooted in its past, and ready to embrace its next chapter.

In the living room (below), we uncovered the home’s original brick fireplace, revealing a stunning running bond pattern with historic accent details and a unique indentation for artwork above the mantle. To honor this feature, a custom mixed-media piece depicting the owner’s beloved country cabin was commissioned, creating a deeply personal focal point. Along the north wall, three framed panels from Backdrop’s Appian Way mural speak to the owner’s love of travel, subtly weaving in layers of personal history. To frame the fireplace, Ericka Howill Design crafted a custom mantlepiece, blending classic craftsman motifs with a refreshed, contemporary perspective, perfectly tailored to the home’s extra-wide hearth.
The kitchen (above and right), once a blend of disparate finishes, was reimagined with deep green cabinetry and braided wood detailing, grounding the space in timeless elegance. In the adjacent vaulted addition, we introduced custom wood beams, adding old-world character and seamlessly tying the space back to the home’s original era.
The dining room (above), a centerpiece of the home, now celebrates craftsmanship with hand-turned oak furniture, bespoke wainscoting, and a celestial-inspired ceiling, nodding to the home’s storied past while offering a fresh, intimate update.
